Deportation
I was looking through my old lyric book and came across this one with some chord markings above the words, F# to B. I don't remember writing any music for them back whenever, so I strummed the chords but they didn't sound quite right so I changed them to G to C, which most of my songs seem to revolve around and it sounded much better. This song starts off sounding a bit 'folksy' and ends up sounding a bit 'Jean Genie' - spot the join. There's a nice bit of 12-string guitar in the intro by Charlie, which gave it that 'folksy' sound. I don't think I need to explain this songs meaning - it's fairly obvious. I like looking at history for subject matter; I've written one about Mary Queen of Scots, which we may record for another album if we can get the money together for it. When I first played 'Deportation' to Dickey I only had two verses for it, so feeling a bit lazy I asked him to write another verse for it - setting the teacher 'homework' - how ironic, I've waited 35 years to do that!
Hitchcock Moments: I played some acoustic guitar in the intro, which is very low in the mix, I didn't sing any back-up vocals - I wonder why?
