Oral Contact (fyi):

This is another song that dates back to 1980 and our farm attic days. In those days it was a faster 'punk style' song and yes a version exists on tape (it crops up in the background of
'Final Act'). This time I slowed the song down a bit added a couple of chords for the bridge and wrote a lead guitar bit for the middle part. I also re-wrote all the words and changed the subject matter, the old version was about communication too, but it also included the obvious connotations involving the songs title. I added fyi (for your information) to the title after I heard Susan on the T.V. show 'Desperate Housewives' use it. Jake did the drums in one take on this track, so we were calling him, 'one take Jake' for a while. Incidentally Jakes dad Barry heard an early demo of this song, and told me it sounded like The New York Dolls, which is cool, but just to wind Dickey up I keep telling him we should send a copy to Shakin' Stevens - could be there's a thin line between cool and not so cool I guess. This is an observational sort of song on modern life.

Hitchcock Moments: I sing the 'do, da, do, do, do, da, do, do' bits between the verses.

Oral Contact (fyi) (Pearce)

When I'm lonely and I need some conversation
I use my mobile to get communication
No time for talking, just now you see
But if I text you, baby you can text me

Oral contact - no one ever talks to me
Oral contact - except electronically
Oral contact - baby its so FYI
Oral contact - going down on my hard drive
Oral contact - makes me feel so alive
Oral contact yeah!

Well let me tell you about the situation
When I'm working at my designated station
They got no time to come and talk you see
But in my inbox there's a message for me

Oral contact - no one ever talks to me
Oral contact - except electronically
Oral contact - baby its so FYI
Oral contact - going down on my hard drive
Oral contact - makes me feel so alive
Oral contact yeah!

Turn on my TV and tune to the news station
I press a button to get new information
No time to sit and shoot the breeze you see
But if I press text well they'll update me

The original line up of the Pork Sirens formed in 1979. The original version of Oral Contact was written in the attic shown above in 1980.
