Wonderful
Back when we had the band in the early eighties and towards the end of our existence at that point, I had a kind of a dirge in A, which we did run through a couple of times but never developed it further. It must have remained dormant in my mind for all those years, because when I started writing the songs for this album I had the start for 'Wonderful', which came to me after listening to David Bowie's 'Rock 'n Roll Suicide', in which he sings the line 'because you're wonderful'. I put the two pieces together and added a kind of Spanish guitar line to complete the intro. I then came up with the chords for the rest of the song added some links, which I think real musicians call bridges and there was the song. In the studio we asked Dave to add some piano and that was when the gospel feel came about, so we tried to develop that with the vocals but we couldn't budget for a whole choir so we tried to do the best with the three of us (Wendelynne, Richard and myself). The subject matter is about leaders and messianic type figures, most of them crash and burn in the end - don't they? So all you believers out there - keep the faith.
Hitchcock Moments: The guitar intro is mine, I recorded it as a guide (for a real guitarist) originally but the others thought it sounded good enough to use so we left it in, though I think I rushed it a little bit, being a bit nervous about my inadequacies. I also sang some backing vocals on this track.

Wonderful (Pearce)
Oh yes you're wonderful, so wonderful, truly wonderful Oh yes you're wonderful, so wonderful, truly wonderful And I want you and I need you, all you people, I bleed for you And we want you and we need you, all we people, we plead for you Because you're wonderful, so wonderful, truly wonderful Yes you're wonderful, so wonderful, truly wonderful And I want you and I yearn for you, all you people I'd burn for you And we want you and we turn to you, all we people, we learn from you Because you're wonderful, so wonderful, truly wonderful Yes you're wonderful, so wonderful, truly wonderful Like Jesus Christ you were crucified We went to pieces when we thought you'd died And all we people, were asking you why? They hung you up and left you out to dry Oh you're so wonderful you couldn't die You're so wonderful you wouldn't/never die (twice) Oh you're so wonderful you couldn't die You're so wonderful you wouldn't/never die (twice) Now all the people know the reason why, (You're a super God up in the sky; you're so wonderful you'll never die) And they need you but you need them too, all the people they feed off you And they need you but you need them too, all the people they feed off you
